Mission Statement
The Pennsylvania Art Therapy Association (PAATA), an affiliate chapter of The American Art Therapy Association, Inc., is a professional organization dedicated to the use of art, the creative process, and visual communication as a healing process. Its mission is to promote the development and public awareness of the field of art therapy through the advancement of research, professional standards, education, legislation, and public forums. PAATA is dedicated to the creation of an inclusive and safe space for diverse cultural, racial and ethnic identities, gender identities and expression, sexual orientations and religious affiliations, in therapy with clients, in our profession, and the larger community. We are committed to dismantling both overt and systemic oppression through recognition of the suffering it causes, providing education about the implications in the field of art therapy, standing as allies with oppressed groups, and taking action in practice. PAATA has been serving Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware since 1968.
