What is the Ron Hays Award?
This award aims to promote the development and public awareness of the field of art therapy through the advancement of research, professional standards, education, legislation, and public forums. Who is eligible? This award supports a PAATA member whose work has been accepted to The American Art Therapy Association’s 2025 conference and promotes the use of art therapy or the arts therapeutically. This award may be used for conference registration, travel, board, and lodging. An invitation to facilitate a supervision group during the conference does not qualify for this award, as it is not considered a peer-reviewed presentation acceptance. This award is open to PAATA new professional members, professional members, credentialed professional members, and honorary life members with at least two full consecutive years of PAATA membership in any of the preceding categories. |
Please note, to be considered as a New Professional, student membership must have been maintained for the previous two years. Current board members and/or those applicants who have previously presented at an AATA conference are only eligible for this award if there are no other applications for the year. In the case of a panel, the majority of panel members must not have presented nationally in the past or serve as current board members.
This award is voted on by the current PAATA board members based on an evaluation of merit and contribution to the field of art therapy. To be considered for this award, a completed application must be received, including a 500-word maximum description of the accepted presentation. Additionally, the applicant must provide a copy of the confirmation letter from the conference administrators affirming acceptance to present at the AATA conference.
