2025 Graduate Student Research Award

The Pennsylvania Art Therapy Association (PAATA) Board is currently accepting applications for the Graduate Student Research Award. This award is granted to a current student who will graduate with their Master’s degree in Art Therapy by the end of June in the awarding year, and who has completed their research/ finishing project during the previous academic year leading up to their graduation. 

To be considered for this award, graduate students are recommended by their program director or project, research or thesis advisor. Graduate program directors/advisors are invited to recommend up to two students from their program for this award. 
The PAATA invites nominees to submit a PowerPoint summary* of their final research project, thesis, or capstone to the PAATA at [email protected] by June 30, 2025. Winners agree to present this PowerPoint summary within 10 months of receiving notice of selection, or the award will be retracted. 
Requirements:
  • The graduate student must be a current Pennsylvania Art Therapy Association member.
  • The student’s work will be assessed by its significance related to the current practice of art therapy, innovative content, and scholarly and creative quality. 
  • The recipient of this award will be required to present their research et al. at a PAATA Zoom meeting or workshop within 10 months of receiving notice of selection. Upon completion, they will receive $100 and an award certificate.
  • A one-year Professional Membership to PAATA will also be granted to the winning recipient following their graduation, and at the start of the next billing cycle. *The award recipient must also be a member of the American Art Therapy Association to receive a PAATA membership gift for one year. 
  • The graduate student award winner will be formally recognized at that year’s PAATA annual membership meeting. 
  • PowerPoint submissions will be reviewed, and the recipient will be chosen by August 31st of that student’s graduating year. Students who have previously been awarded the Graduate Research Award are not eligible to win multiple years.
As a reminder, please submit nominations and PowerPoint summary via email to [email protected]. The deadline for this year’s nomination is June 30th, 2025.

*Nominators must notify students of their nomination. Students must then submit their PowerPoint (of their Poster or presentation) or abstract from their thesis/capstone/culminating project paper (300 words or less) to [email protected] with the email subject line “Graduate research award submission” PRIOR the June deadline.
